The Met Office has warned of "prolonged" power cuts, uprooted trees, damage to buildings and homes and "significant" travel disruption. They usually last three or four hours and are relatively narrow - typically around 30 miles across. The most severe red-level warning is in place for part of the southwest of England and south Wales until midday today. The host often praises the pilots and ground teams for their hard work and expertise in landing the aircraft safely in difficult conditions, while viewers’ hearts must go out to those onboard. They are likely to mean complete disruption to travel, loss of power and water, and significant damage to homes and businesses that is likely to endanger life.

It was surprising to see the obviously suited Canadian married couple of Barbara Kelly (who I had only ever seen in the 1950s TV panel game "What's My Line") and her husband Bernard Braden (tv's "The Braden Beat"), acting together as a divorcing couple.Stanley Baker keeps impeccably calm as the airliner captain and there is a rather touching romance between Virginia Maskell and the American co-pilot.The "Brummy" actor who plays the hit-and run driver played a very similar role in "The Night My Number Came Up" with Sir Michael Redgrave.I had never seen Marty Wilde in a film acting role, of course playing a pop star, and noted he composed the opening popular theme music. Jetstorm is in actuality a programmed shell personality given life by the spark of the Maximal Silverbolt. Amusingly he annouced this intention as soon as they are off the ground, causing factionalism, panic and fatalism among his fellow passengers, and a stern response from Stanley Baker’s avuncular no-nonsense pilot. The crew of a transatlantic flight discover that one of their passengers has a bomb on the plane and is going to blow it up. We know that warm air rises and cold air sinks; that’s what creates cloud and rain. It also helps to form areas of low pressure, sometimes turning them into storms. Areas of low pressure almost always have weather fronts as part of their structure, unless they’re a tropical storm. These fronts separate areas of warm and cold air and it’s their interaction that creates and develops wet and windy weather. The Met Office issues weather warnings when severe weather is likely and has the potential to disrupt day-to-day life.

Close to the two fronts we see focused streams of air called conveyor belts, which run up into the atmosphere. These are colour-coded yellow, amber and red to reflect both how likely the extreme weather is and how badly it could impact people. There are too many characters (I couldn’t believe people were still introducing themselves almost half way through the movie!), and the ending’s a bit cheesy, but this is generally pretty riveting. Relative to the size of the storm they are very narrow - usually only around 30 miles across - and tend to last just three or four hours. He added: “Eunice looks like it may be able to produce a sting jet, a narrow, focused region of extremely strong winds embedded within the larger area of strong winds and lasting just a few hours.”

The Met Office said strong winds are likely to cause flying debris, building roofs to fly off and power lines to be brought down. Thrust would refer to Silverbolt as "Jetstorm" from this point on, bitter and viewing the Maximal as Jetstorm having turned traitor. Big Jet TV is a full-time operation for Dyer, supported by financial contributions from members who pay for access to extra streams. The two-person media business is supported by the director of operations, Gilly Prestwood, an early fan of Dyer’s streams who now provides technical support and keeps the broadcast on the road.

Computer models have hinted at the chance of a sting jet as Storm Eunice crosses the UK, but even if the rare weather event doesn't happen, the winds from Eunice are set to be extremely dangerous and damaging. Cold conveyors bring snow and rain, which evaporate and speed up the stream of cold air falling into the storm even more. Unexpectedly good this film, in which Richard Attenborough, who again is impressive as a man with serious anger issues, plays a grieving father determined to get revenge by suicide bombing the aircraft that his child’s drunk driving killer is travelling on. They are rare and were only formally recognised when one occurred during the Great Storm of October 1987 - when wind speeds reached 115mph and millions of trees were brought down. In the show, Jetstorm has no feet and never walks. He only touches the ground when he is prone/disabled.

The cold conveyor brings its cold air from higher in the atmosphere and from being in a cold air mass. Sometimes it has help from rain and snow as they fall into it and evaporate. This change from liquid to gas requires heat, which is removed from the conveyor, cooling it further. Now we have even colder air falling along the conveyor, speeding up as it does so, like a rollercoaster taking the first drop. Sting jets aredifficult to forecast because of their relatively small size, and the way each individual low-pressure system develops. However, there are tell-tale signs in weather models that are now able to spot cores of very strong winds. They are usually found some 30,000 feet up in the atmosphere and are what help meteorologists forecast the weather as the winds influence global weather patterns. A red warning is the Met Office's most severe weather warning, meaning dangerous weather is expected and you should take action to keep yourself and others safe. A weather phenomenon known as a sting jet similar to the one seen during the Great Storm of 1987 could form on Friday as Storm Eunice takes hold, scientists have warned.
