About this deal

This Dreamland throw felt a tad smaller than some heated throws in this line up – definitely one to keep to yourself and not offer to share. Moulding nicely to the body, this electric blanket stayed evenly warm, but the overall temperature did fluctuate by a few degrees at times. It’s perfect if you hate gaps letting the cold air in under your blanket, as you can tuck it under you. With a sliding on/off switch and an illuminated display with three different heat settings, you can beat the chill whilst sitting in your favourite chair. The heat was mainly focused in a few patches on the blanket, rather than throughout, but they’ve been placed to ensure they’re at the points you’re going to be in contact with the pad.

Today, we have millions of users a month from around the world, and assess more than 1,000 products a year. Rather than the clip attachment that most affordable blankets have, the Anti-Bacterial Heated Underblanket has two lugs that are pressed to release the control in one movement. It has a warm and cosy microfleece fabric, enriched with silver for a long lasting antibacterial action with 99% efficacy against bacteria. Although to be extra safe, it’s always advisable to exercise caution and not leave it turned on for longer than you need. If your dryer does not have a low heat setting, skip this step and simply air dry the blanket from the start as high temperatures can damage the electric wiring inside the blanket,' Hayley advises. There’s no timer, however, so you’ll need to remember to switch it off, or it has a nine-hour auto shut-off. With 10 heat settings and 10 timing options, plus easy-to-use controls, the Slumberdown elegantly warm luxury heated throw was a no-brainer to win best overall for this roundup.

One charge of the blanket should last you between 90 minutes and three hours, depending on how high you have it whacked. When the temperature drops, the teddy-bear fleeciness will have you toasty in minutes, but the clever reversible design ensures you’ll stay cool in warmer months. I purchased one earlier this autumn and found it really great - the quick heat up; the 1 hour default and the easy to use controls. We liked that it came in a different colour other than grey – ours was teal, although we’d say it’s more of a dark blue to our eyes – and it is one of the most lightweight we tried, which is great if you don’t like being weighed down or tend to overheat under heavy layers. However, the blanket itself is quite rigid compared to some – I found it made my memory foam mattress firm, and less comfortable, to sleep on.This under blanket’s accompanying app means you can turn it on while you’re out, leaving you with a warm bed by the time you’re back. This is great if you want it in the car, or the seat you want to use it on is just a bit too far from a plug socket. This means running an electric blanket for one hour would cost just over 3p and around 27p a night (based on 8 hours of use), which is significantly cheaper than having your central heating on all night. Another plus is that it’s machine-washable at 30°C and tumble dryer-safe thanks to the detachable control, and comes in a reusable zipped storage bag.

Let the machine run for a few minutes before turning it off and leaving the electric blanket to soak in the soapy water for about 15 minutes, and then skip to the rinse and spin cycle,' Hayley explains. Elasticated straps fit it securely to the mattress – there are two corner straps at the bottom, with one long elasticated strap towards the top that loops underneath – as it’s not large enough to reach the top corners. On average, it took about 10 minutes to heat up – longer than the maker’s estimated five-minute heat up, but this may be because memory foam tends to be cooler to the touch. The gently backlit dual controls shouldn’t be too disruptive at night either, but a bit of patience is needed when securing it to your mattress, as the long cable is a little fiddly. We found this helpful if we were settling down for a movie night or using it during the day while we worked. Each electric blanket will have a different power rating and the overall cost will depend on the rating on your blanket's label.
