About this deal

Reading or writing shows repetitions, additions, transpositions, omissions, substitutions, and reversals in letters, numbers and/or words. Quello che questo libro non spiega è perché tutto questo si possa, o perfino, si debba, considerare un dono. The Davis® approach is a highly effective, non-traditional suite of programs for dyslexia and other learning differences. Davis methods give individuals the tools to use their inherent, natural strengths to overcome specific areas of academic or workplace difficulties. The method was developed by Ronald D. Davis, after a breakthrough discovery enabled him to overcome his own severe dyslexia at the age of 38. Based on his research with other dyslexic adults, Davis opened a center in California in 1982. He continued to explore and refine his methods working with hundreds of clients, and twelve years later, in 1994, published the first edition of his book, The Gift of Dyslexia.

I'm hyperlexic, and can't imagine (nor remember, as I began reading aloud before age 2) looking at words in my native language and not being able to decipher the symbols into concepts and ideas. (I have poor visual imagination, however.) Based on personal experience of dyslexia, Ronald D. Davis offers insights into the learning problems and stigmas faced by those with the condition, and provides tried and tested techniques for overcoming and correcting it with his Davis Procedures, now used in over 40 countries worldwide. My wife is an interior architect and a psychotherapist. She is also dyslexic, dyscalculic, dyspraxic, and ADHD. She hated school as a child, and even as an adult she really struggled with simple arithmetic. She could read, but it was laborious and slow.Dennis, if you would like to get help following the Davis approach, you will find a directory of Davis Facilitators here: http://www.davismethod.org Often, very bright children are able to compensate for their dyslexia in the early school years, but cannot cope with the greater intellectual demands of secondary level schooling. There are different Davis Learning Strategies workshops for teachers conducted in different regions. Ron Davis doesn’t call these things gifts, but rather dyslexic abilities. However, his list is slightly different. Here is his list of their abilities: utilizing the brain’s ability to alter and create perceptions, being highly aware of the environment, being more curious than average, thinking mainly in pictures, being highly intuitive and insightful, thinking and perceiving multi-dimensionally, being able to experience thought as reality, and having vivid imaginations. Like other dyslexics, Ronald Davis had unusual gifts of creativity and imagination, but couldn't function properly at school.

Disorientation and Dyslexic Perception Description of experimental research exploring how disorientation affects perception ( Issue 26) Why does the Davis method work? Because it was developed by Ron Davis, who has dyslexia himself. He knows what it feels like to never fit in. He knows the frustration of living with a brain that works differently.I can't speak to the teaching methods in these books but as a parent that has a smart, hard working kid that just wasn't understanding simple math this was a godsend. The ability to “see in 3D”, which Davis’s theory hinges upon, is well-established in the field of dyslexia. But, crucially, just as well established is the fact that not all dyslexics have this ability. For that matter, not all dyslexics have problems reading. (For many dyslexics, their problem area is Maths, for example.) And, even if you do use Davis’s techniques to refocus this ability to see in 3D, what about other classic dyslexic weaknesses, like poor working memory and problems with auditory discrimination (distinguishing between similar letter-sounds)? Are we just supposed to pretend those don’t exist?

The vivid way that Ron paints his pictures of how a dyslexic brain works meant I was listening along thinking yes, I agree with that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that!! It is like he is looking into my skull. Then the big part of this book hits me. TheBookOfPhobiaaAndManias traces the rich and thought-provoking history in which our fixations have taken shape. Dyslexics don’t all develop the same gifts, but they do have certain mental functions in common. Here are the basic abilities all dyslexics share: Though I cannot prove it, I am pretty sure that Ron Davis was the first person to call dyslexia a gift, when he published his book The Gift of Dyslexia in 1994. When she was in her late thirties a friend told her about this book and she got me to read it, in the hope that I would follow the instructions in the book and help her overcome her dyslexia.Love this book. It changed my daughters life... The advice, tips and inspiration helped me not to give up and to not let a piece of paper define my child. Thank you once again." - Marinda Cruywagen Opening in 1963 New York, to Renaissance Florence, to the birth of theatre in fifth-century Athens, and the Sex Pistols shattering Thatcherite Britain - take your seat for the history of performance. Started out really enjoying it and then half way through I became disappointed in the classification of Dyslexia and struggled with the rest. Our daughter’s confidence has grown tremendously and her ability to share with us what she needs to be a successful learner is wonderful. As we head into parent teacher conferences we are no longer filled with dread and fear. After her first evaluation with the reading specialist this year, she is reading at grade level! She is excited to continue to work on her trigger word list after feeling successful for the first time in years. Dawn and James, Parents, Idaho, US -
