About this deal

From that thought arose the idea of designing figures based on some of DC’s most beloved characters that had never appeared on the animated series or utilizing popular characters that had been created after the show had aired. After the Mission Masters set Hasbro started making figures for the Batman: The Animated Series spin-off TV show, Batman Beyond. A Batman related show set in the future with even darker themes than it’s parent show. Batman Beyond starred a new Batman, Terry McGinnis, who was mentored by an aging Bruce Wayne.

I get to work with Paul again and Alan for the first time” he reveals. “You couldn't ask for better scripts to inspire this happy bat-artist.” The Batman: The Animated Series action figures did so well for DC Collectibles that they released more figures in 2016. In January they unveiled a small grouping of figures, which included Robin and the Joker. These two would mark the last of the figures that have been currently released through DC Collectibles, but there are still many more figures to come. Batman: The Adventures Continue is the definition of a labor of love. The comics and new action figures show that the story Dini, Burnett, Timm and so many others started telling in 1992 still goes on, and we can only guess where things may take us next. It’s enough to make everyone who watched the classic series as a kid feel like one again. The chance to return to that world, with two creative partners who were also involved in shaping it, has been a real thrill for Dini. “Ty Templeton was able to capture all the depth we were trying to go for with the characters and even then some,” Dini shares. “He brought such incredible emotion to the characters and complexity with the stories. To work with him again is a dream come true.” Combat Belt Batman: The top three are going to be practically interchangeable. This Batman has a perfect suit, tons of cool accessories, and a clean, classic paint job. I honestly can’t think of a single thing I’d change. The Jokermobile: The only thing I dislike about this is that it never appeared in the series, because this is 100% something Joker would have driven around in. And the launching smile missile is simply perfect. Hasbro also released figures for the direct to video Batman Beyond movie, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. The figures included in this set were Golden Armor Batman, Gotham Defender Batman, Gotham Knight Batman, Rapid Switch Bruce Wayne and Arkham Assault Joker. It’s great to see classic DC characters we never had a chance to use in the animated series, like Azrael and Red Hood, appear in animated toy form,” says Dini.

Robin: Like Combat Belt Batman, the Robin figure is perfect as-is. Fantastic sculpt and gorgeous colors, and I love the look of his hair and that smile. The glider accessory is big, bright, and a ton of fun too. Great, great Robin figure. The first Batman Beyond action figure line made a similar mistake to The Batman Animated series toy lines. Their figures showcased many different versions of Batman Beyond, but didn’t include many of the other characters from the series. The first set included designs like Manta Racer Batman, Lightning Storm Batman, Thunderwhip Batman, and Hydro Force Batman. Clayface: Ol’ Matt Hagen here is big, lumpy, and kind of gross, as he should be. Excellent sculpt, and the firing mace hand is just flat-out awesome. While as a kid we would understandably gravitate more toward the hero figures, I think as adults we can appreciate a truly well-made villain all the more. Especially when it’s as cool as Clayface here. Ice Hammer: None of these vehicles are awful, so this particular list goes from “good” to “great.” I’d gladly take an Ice Hammer vehicle any day without hesitation, but would prefer the other 13 just a bit more. Batcave Command Central: While playsets can be relatively hit or miss, this one definitely hits. Multiple levels of play, including facades for Wayne Manor, the Batcave, and the exit for the Batmobile, and it even looks like it can fold up for ease of storage and transportation. Can’t go wrong with any of that. Anti-Freeze Batman: One of those figures I always think of when I think of this line, as I remember seeing it all the time in stores. Never owned it, but I’m nonetheless very familiar with it. The fact that it kind of looks like what the concept is selling helps, with white evoking “freeze” and the red piping potentially being used for generating heat.

Hoverbat: A little over-designed for a vehicle that should be relatively simple, I like this more because of the art on the box. Two-Face looks so mad to have been captured, while Batman has an expression of annoyance as if he missed his exit on the freeway. Amazing. Ground Assault Batman: Kind of digging those colors, and the large bat-shaped plate on his chest. Random glider/board accessory could be for anything, so otherwise it’s relatively nondescript. We are following up on the original toy line that we launched,” explains DC Direct Creative Director, Jim Fletcher. “We went through almost fifty characters. We were looking for a way to get this line continued and we were trying to think of a way to do it by making enough figures of characters that people would actually want.” After a mix of failed toy lines, Hasbro stepped into the picture and bought out Kenner. With that acquisition, they started their own series of Batman: The Animated Series action figures. Their first toy line for the franchise was called The New Batman Adventures. This line featured new sculpts based on the updated animated series from the WB network. It also included figures of Batman, Nightwing, and some Batman: The Animated Series villains. Notable in this run are the including of Mad Hatter and the Creeper!

*PRE-ORDER DC Direct: Batman The Animated Series 6 inch Action Figure - Alfred Pennyworth

Action figures for Batman: The Animated Series were released immediately after the premiere of the show in 1992. The toys were produced by Kenner. During the show’s time on air, Kenner released four series of action figures ( Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 and Series 4) along with vehicles and playlets. Bruce Wayne’s Car: If this were a Hot Wheel or something, I might like it more. As part of a line with much more interesting vehicles and characters, it’s just kind of bland. Kenner’s next Batman The Animated Series related line was The Adventures of Batman & Robin D.U.O. Force. Seeing its full run over two series ( Series 1 and Series 2), this run of figures included a Wind Blitz Batgirl action figure, but sadly the rest of the figures are simply repainted ones using old molds.
