About this deal

Cadence Sinclair Eastman is the eldest grandchild of the wealthy Harris Sinclair. Although her family pretends to be perfect, Cadence knows that beneath the surface, the wealth and privilege have taken an insidious toll on her family and any unhappiness or odd behavior is ignored or repressed to perpetuate the image of refinement. Harris has three daughters, Cadence's mother Penny, and her aunts Carrie and Bess. Harris owns an island called Beechwood Island near Martha's Vineyard and has built a home for himself called Clairmont along with a house for each of his daughters. I don't know how I feel about the ending. I seem to be one of the few readers who hasn't seen a similar movie and wasn't really thinking about the big plot twist, so when I got to the ending, I was completely floored. But, I agree. For "smart kids" they should've been smart enough to think about the consequences of this idea. And the idea of this being covered up...if I was Gat's mom, I'd be so angry if someone tried to "cover up" my son's death. That seemed a little unbelievable to me. June of the summer I was 15, my father ran off with some woman he loved more than us." Cadence Sinclair, the teenage narrator of We Were Liars, initially seems very familiar: quirky, perky, sentimental and charming, blessed with an unusual name and a neat turn of phrase, surely she's going to lead us on a tale of unrequited love studded with witty one-liners. And indeed she does, but her story soon descends into much murkier waters, eyeing its teenage protagonist with a twisted smile and a tragic sense of the pain wrought by selfish, self-absorbed adolescents. Violence and death are themes, but not always in a literal sense. When Cady falls victim to migraines or fantasies, the images she conjures up are bloody and brutal. For example, she says that her father "took out a handgun and shot me in the chest." It's believable for a second, but then the reader understands that this is only a metaphor for him leaving her during her parent's divorce. Cady also has suicide fantasies, imagining herself to be "a beautiful corpse." A terrible accident does cause people to die.In the summer Carrie is 17, her cousin Yardley comes to stay - brining her boyfriend and two of his mates. Things are about to change in a big way. It's a very clever book and an incredibly sophisticated piece of YA. BUT... an execution that was not to my tastes. The writing was too choppy and fragmented and I hated the frequent use of nouns as adjectives. Like this: the prequel follows 17 year old Caroline “Carrie” Sinclair, one of the three Sinclair sisters and Johnny’s (from We Were Liars) mother, during one unforgettable summer. it was very reminiscent of the first book, but stands entirely on its own. stylistically, both books are similar, the narrative style of this book echoing the narration of the first. but plot wise, they’re nothing alike. Cadence is the eldest granddaughter of a family so rich that they never mention money. Every year, the Sinclairs spend their summer on a private island, where the grandparents have built four houses for themselves and their three daughters, plus a smaller building for their cooks and cleaners.

The title. It does't make sense to me. I don't want to say anything in case spoilers, but I don't think it's the perfect title.

SparkNotes—the stress-free way to a better GPA

In Part Four (“Look, a Fire”), Cadence starts to grasp what really happened. There had been an ugly showdown between Granddad and his daughters, about the division of the family inheritance. The fight ended with all four adults angrily leaving the island for a short time, taking the younger cousins with them. The Liars stayed behind. Since much of the family conflict had been about Granddad’s house and its contents, the Liars had deliberately burned the house down. Cadence is pleased that in the new house, Granddad and his daughters treat each other more kindly. Cadence’s feelings change, however, when she realizes that Granddad’s two dogs died in the fire. She and the other Liars are responsible for their deaths.

Did we miss something on diversity?

Most of the characters including sisters of Caroline were dislikable. I think I mostly loved Yardley: she’s smart, confident and devoted friend who stood up for Caroline and I think I cannot say no to another prequel to learn more about her story evolved. It’s not often that I write a letter asking a reader to do this, but please trust me. I won’t tell you the plot of this book. It is better for you to just read it. Between the covers you will find: Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Violence & Scariness in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close There's this: He was contemplation and enthusiasm. Ambition and strong coffee. I could have looked at him forever.and this: The universe was good because he was in it. AND THIS! I wanted to touch him like he was a bunny, a kitten, something so special and soft your fingertips can’t leave it alone. Gag. Her talking about love nearly made me put the book down.

After reading and being unimpressed by WE WERE LIARS, I thought I probably wouldn't continue with the Taft-Sinclair family and their WASP-y adventures. There's something a little tedious about watching a rich, white, entitled American family get away with successfully covering up their crimes. I DON'T KNOW WHY OR ANYTHING. I like the lemon scavenger hunt game and the Who Am I? game the family plays. I like their family nights. I like the dad's quotes as an advice to get through life. I enjoyed the twists! The audiobook was good because the narrator sings at the singing parts. All rights reserved. Published in the United States by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, a division of Random House, Inc., New York. Of course there are plenty of hints, but will you be able to figure them out or will you be in the dark until the end?I have a theory. I have a theory about this book that I'm really excited to discuss so I'm going to make a video about it! Has the tendency to use overwrought, run on metaphors. To describe herself. And her headaches. Such as a helicopter blown by the wind tossed by the torrential rain in the wilds of Alaska felt by a little Eskimo girl during the first whispers of a glacial spring with the scent of violets and hints of lavender in the fields of Grasse. she did not actually recover from the incident and she will suffer for the rest of her life ! "It didnt end at least". In the summer of 1985, Caroline has so much on her plate: dealing with the grief of drowning 10 years old sister Rosemary whose ghost starts visiting her as her beautiful and self absorbed sisters Bee and Penelope already moved on with her lives, flirting with boys, enjoying summer, pretending nothing tragic happened just like her parents do. This audiobook was good. I should have listened to this book before We Were Liars. It would've spoiled some but not much. I want to remember about the aunties and I'm having a hard time remembering. I need to go flip through We Were Liars again to see which aunties is Cadence's mother and who's the aunties for the other girl's mom. It's been 4 books between the first and this prequel, so it's hard for me to remember. I know Aunt Carrie is Johnny's mom. Good thing We Were Liars has the family tree at the beginning of the book!
