The only exceptions to this are when he’s on ice, or when his back is against the wall, when he feels threatened, or when he feels that someone he loves has been threatened. Also, I can’t for the life of me wrap my head around if you’ve already hired 2 voice actors to play two characters, why they wouldn’t use their voices for their lines when it’s told from the other’s POV. I bite back my smile, and as the doctor pulls out a long wand and covers it in a condom, my stomach flutters, a mix of nerves, excitement, and so much love. Devoting 20 hours to a book by a new-to-me author is always a little risky, but I am SO GLAD that I took the chance on this one. I have enjoyed some a lot (I’m counting the days until our review of The Long Game runs), even though I have no interest whatsoever in hockey outside of my romance reading.

Regarding popularity of sport and the representation of hockey in romance, the author of this book is Canadian so I expect that played into it as well. He definitely needs to stick to his day job, checking people into boards, slapping that puck in the net, and landing my red face on the jumbotron. And considering this man has been with so many women, all kinds of women really, because of his career, it makes little sense that one day he sees her and bam without knowing anything about her he is enthralled. Dixie is flat broke, and her best - make that only - friend, Landon, is throwing her a lifeline from the Great Beyond. There’s also something of that excitement experienced by those who fell down the Kristen Ashley rabbit hole back when Motorcycle Man first came out – more the feel of the read rather than anything in the style or characters really – I wouldn’t draw a direct line between Ashley and yourself in terms of style.Between their busy schedules and her brother’s disapproval, they know keeping things casual and low-key is the smartest play. I can’t find articles on diversity among the athletes in national leagues that cover the MLS (soccer), but the NHL is less diverse than the NBA, NFL and even the MLB. He ambles away from me, muttering to himself, hand over his mouth before he sinks back down to the couch, curling up in the fetal position.

The runtime is also prohibitive, because 20 hours means you’ll be listening for AT LEAST two days, probably more. you share in their weaknesses, their blossoming feelings, their torn emotions, their crossroads, their strengths and their hard-won love. Why was this woman such a horrible human being and fully obsessed with ruining their relationship when she already had a hockey bf but decided to ruin her own relationship too? I keep thinking I should give her a shot since I’ve heard good things and her books sound good, but somehow that always gets in my way.

I’d also add that being a high profile sport but not as popular as other major sports may make it easier to fictionalize – readers might not be as familiar with it, so there’s more room for creative license without choosing a more niche sport that doesn’t appeal to as many readers. This book caught my attention when I heard that it revolved around a playboy, captain of a hockey team, and a sassy and fierce female lead who wasn’t easy for the taking. There was a fleeting mention that it was because he’s a man whore in her eyes, but it still doesn’t account for how she behaves when they meet. I don’t want to suggest that it’s all racism (I don’t believe that), and I certainly don’t fault readers for enjoying or reading the books.
