The post-processing section has been revamped as well. All mesh-related tools are now clearly labeled and placed on the left side of the screen, along with their corresponding sliders and settings.

To be able to capture the lion’s belly and feet, we split this scan into two projects. The auto alignment feature worked great, as did the hole-filling and texture remapping tools mentioned earlier. On the final 3D model, it’s difficult to tell which areas were automatically generated.

These two details lead us to believe that the engineers at Shining 3D put some thought into making sure the Einstar can last a while. It’s all we can deduce without opening the device up, but there is nothing that indicates the company cut corners anywhere. Accessories Shining 3D is a Chinese-based company founded in 2004. Headquartered in Hangzhou, China, the company employs a global team of over 700 specialists providing cutting-edge 3D digitizing solutions and support to the customers all over the world. The POP 2 will never give you the results you are looking for. Or at least not unless Revopoint updates its software algorithms by a lot. The first is the connector used to connect the USB/power cable to the 3D scanner. It seems to be some version of LEMO’s self-latching system. These are very robust and durable, so you won’t need to worry about the connection coming loose or wearing out. As long as you treat the cable with respect, it should last you a long time.

The Einstar comes in, aside from the cardboard box, a very practical carrying case. It safely stores the scanner, its cables, the calibration case, and markers. It’s the first time we see so much effort put into affordable 3D scanner accessories. Even some more expensive scanners don’t have such a nice protective case. The health field is not the only one that benefits from the use of 3D scanners. The art and design industry has also had 3D scanners make a huge impact. We scanned this lion before with laser 3D scanners that didn’t capture colors, so we wanted to try with the Einstar and see how good a color scan would look compared to the real statue.
